Exclamation Major Event! Salt Lake City Bike Tour!

It's official! We have been granted permission to enter the Salt Lake City Bike Tour on June 3rd!

Details can be found at: http://www.saltlakemarathon.com where you can also register online. Please read all the details on their site.

Cost: $35/person
Distance: 25 miles
Map: click here
Course Video: click here (71.8MB)

I would suggest registerring online because their mail-in registration deadline is May 12th.

There will be about 3,000 bikers in this tour - it is a pretty major event! The majority of it is either flat or dowhill, with a few hills in between. There will also be a major party downtown afterwords where we can all hang out, eat food, listen to a live concert, and ride around the city! Gonna be a blast!

Please reply or email me if you have questions, or if you're planning on coming, or what not. Hope you can make it!

Please let me know if you have registered!

Thanks!
Adam

Default All Trikkers please come

We hope to see as many of you that can, this will be a great event and it will be a great representation of the Trikke Talk Nation. If you are a Trikker in Utah or Idaho we better see you! So what if we get kicked off for going a bit slow, we can still hang out for part of the weekend and go on some Kick A rides. Let us know when or if you are coming, and we can plan a ride the night before, expecially so you can get adjusted to the altitude. The air is a bit thinner along the Utah Rockies. We might also be able to pull a ride on the Skii Trikke later that day, if we can find a good hill with some snow.

Hope to see you in a few! (Now back to the training)

I wanted to add to this real quick a couple things...... first, a letter from the event coordinator explaining the 15MPH rule. Then after that, I've uploaded a video of the first part of the race (provided by TRIKKEN), which contains the worst hills - which really there's only one of. So here's that letter:

Adam,

What we do is have police motorcycles lead the front of the event and the riders are not allowed to pass... and no there is no early out... the police at all the intersections need to get in place.

We then have a sag to follow along with bike marshals scattered throughout the field of riders. They are there to help with mechanical problems and if it can not be fixed, to transport the people and cyclist off to the finish area. AND for riders who can not maintain the minimum speed, they too will be asked to cut the course or get in the sag. We MUST be past specific points throughout the morning because we have different events starting at different times along the course, such as the 5K and all cyclists must be past that park before they are scheduled to start.

So the simple answer is, everyone must maintain the min speed and they have signed a waiver that states that, or they must leave the course. We do have a downhill start, so everyone has a built in extra couple minutes... but that is all.

Hope that answers your question. I know LA and other events have either no speed requirement, or 8 MPH min, but ours is a very different course - but the same for everyone.

Best Regards,
Cindy Yorgason
SL Marathon Bike Tour Coordinator

That looks like a real nice ride! Even in the video there's hardly any traffic!
How many miles do you think that video was?

I don't know exactly how many miles it was, but he got to 2000 East at the very end of the video. I attached a copy of the map so you can see where that is. Looks to be about 1/4 of the way.

So...are you guys still going to do it knowing that they will possibly (but hope not) be kicking you off the course at some point? I probably would...what the hay!

Heck ya! Even if we do get kicked off the course, we can still ride the jordan river trail, or Liberty Park. Then there's a big party downtown and what not. Still gonna be pretty dang fun. Wish you could make it.
